Last week, a USA Today column shined a light on the horrific details of a murder trial involving a Pennsylvania abortion clinic doctor, and accused media outlets of intentionally ignoring the case. Several pro-life groups also organized a “TweetFest”, encouraging users to send messages to media companies on Twitter asking them to cover the case involving Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Now, the efforts seem to be making a difference.
On Friday, The Washington Post issued this statement, informing readers that, “We believe the story is deserving of coverage by our own staff, and we intend to send a reporter for the resumption of the trial next week. In retrospect, we should have sent a reporter sooner.” Late last week The Atlantic also acknowledged that the story deserved more coverage, saying it should be “front-page” and “is thoroughly newsworthy”.
