Facebook Is Buying Virtual-Reality Company for Some Reason

Social media giant Facebook is reportedly shelling out $2 billion in cash and stock for the virtual reality maker Oculus. The small tech company—which has already received 750,000 preorders for the Oculus Rift headset—has garnered a lot of buzz among video game enthusiasts for its unique approach to gaming. But according to Facebook, they think the future of the project is much bigger than just playing an enhanced version of Call of Duty. Zuckerberg told the AP, “Imagine sharing not just moments with friends online but entire experiences and adventures” when describing the immersive technology’s social media implications. Getting more than $2 billion isn’t too shabby for a company that has yet to deliver a product and got most of their funding through a Kickstarter campaign
