5 Black Lives Matter Demonstrators Were Shot in Minneapolis Last Night

Police in Minneapolis are currently looking for three suspects after five people were shot at a Black Lives Matter sit-in last night. All three of the suspected shooters are white. A BLM spokesperson told The Minneapolis Star Tribune that “a group of white supremacists showed up at the protest, as they have done most nights” and then “opened fire on about six protesters.” All five of the victims are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Protests—and now counter-protests—have been on-going outside of the police station, after police shot and killed 24-year-old Jamar Clark earlier this month. Witnesses to the shooting say that Clark was restrained or handcuffed when he was shot by officers. Police maintain that they were responding to a domestic violence call, when Clark resisted officers, interfered with paramedics treating the female victim and attempted to grab an officer’s firearm. Police are investigating the shooting but have refused to release video of the incident, despite pleas from activists and protestors.
