Female Methodist Ministers Aiming at Larger Pastorates

praying_woman
The United Methodist Church recently held a conference for ordained women aimed at breaking the “stained-glass ceiling” in the denomination. The conference examined the barriers keeping women in the Methodist Church from pastoring churches of more than 1,000 members. Women make up 23 percent of the Methodist Church’s pastorate, yet only 85 women lead churches of more than 1,000 members, compared to 1,082 men in such positions. The UMC has a long tradition of ordaining women, with the first female clergy being ordained in 1880.
