This week, author and pastor Mark Batterson celebrated going 730 days without touching his inhaler.
About two years ago, Batterson had been preaching about praying audacious prayers in a sermon series. In the sermon, “The Bravest Prayer,” Batterson asked his audience, rhetorically, “What is the bravest prayer that you could pray over the next seven weeks?” He then emotionally testified to a miraculous healing.
At the time, Batterson hadn’t touched his inhaler for 50 days. He reported that he’s had acute asthma symptoms since he was 3, even having to be hospitalized at times. After years of medical treatment and prayer, Batterson said, “A switch was flipped 50 days ago, and I haven’t taken a puff of my inhaler in 50 days. If you added up all the days that I’ve not taken my inhaler in the past 40 years, it wouldn’t add up to 50.”
Batterson took to Twitter this week to celebrate that, nearly two years later, he still is living without acute asthmatic symptoms. “Two years ago today,” he wrote, “God HEALED MY ASTHMA. Asthma was my earliest memory. There weren’t forty days in forty years I didn’t have to take a puff of my inhaler. I haven’t touched an inhaler in 730 days! PRAY THE BRAVEST PRAYER.”
