Controversial End Times Preacher Harold Camping Has Died at the Age of 92

In an email sent last night, Family Radio said that its co-founder Harold Camping had died at his home on Sunday at the age of 92, after becoming injured in a fall two weeks ago. “He passed away peacefully in his home, with his family at his side.” Though he co-founded the Family Radio network, he’s best-known for his multiple, failed end-of-the-world predictions. A ministry employee told The Christian Post that more than $100 million was spent on an advertising campaign warning people about doomsday on May 21, 2011. Following his next prediction, Camping sent an apology to his listeners—some of whom had sold their possessions in preparation for Judgment Day. In letter, he said, “Even the most sincere and zealous of us can be mistaken. We realize that many people are hoping they will know the date of Christ’s return. In fact for a time Family Radio fell into that kind of thinking … At Family Radio, we continue to look to God for guidance. If it is His good pleasure for us to continue on with our original mission, the proclamation of the Gospel, God’s Word, then we must continue to look to Him.” Camping is survived by his wife and seven children …
