Bob Jones Rape Victims Say Faculty Told Them to Repent

In a scathing, heartbreaking report in Al Jazeera America, five rape victims from fundamentalist Christian college Bob Jones University accused BJU faculty of very disturbing treatment. The victims say they were forced into silent shame and blamed for their own sexual assaults. The women say they were told their own sin was the cause of their rape and their inability to recover came from an inability to forgive their rapists. The stories ranged from Katie Landry—who was instructed by the dean of students to find the “root sin” of her own rape—to a girl going by “Sarah” who was told by a BJU counselor that flashbacks to her rape were the result of “choosing to replay pornographic thoughts in [her] mind.”
