BEAUTY OF THE WITHIN[BY KYLE CROUCH]
Man is and always was fallible, and humankind has made countless errors since the beginning of time. However, God still counts us beautiful because we are His creation. But doesn’t that contradict the definition of beauty? Shouldn’t beauty be something that is pleasing to the senses?
Throughout all of humanity’s depravity with its wars, evil schemes and dishonest gains, why would we still be considered beautiful by a God who could simply wipe us off the face of the earth and start over from scratch? The only reason we are spared is because God called us beautiful and we reflect God’s glory and joy simply by our existence.
We have the ability to feel, reason and most importantly, love. Because love is a choice, we had to be given free will as well. It is up to each person what he or she will do with that free will, and only those who choose to love God will truly reflect the beauty He has given us. The beauty within in us is infinite; eternal … our bodies are nothing but vessels to carry that inner beauty.
Beauty does not end with the mask of flesh that covers our bodies. It goes deep within, waiting to be released. How do we release this beauty on the inside?
Each person on earth is beautiful because they are God’s creation. However, it is up to us to decide if we want to allow Him to transcend that beauty through us. If we let Him consume our lives, His thoughts become our thoughts, and His personality becomes our personality. We are no longer our own, but we are part of a larger composition, a body of people that are a part of something much larger than our individual selves are.
C.S. Lewis put it perfectly when he said, "Some people think that after this life, or perhaps after several lives, human souls will be ‘absorbed’ into God. But when they try to explain what they mean, they seem to be thinking of our being absorbed into God as one material thing is absorbed into another. They say it is like a drop of water slipping into the sea. But of course that is the end of the drop. If that is what happens to us, then being absorbed is the same as ceasing to exist. It is only the Christians who have any idea of how human souls can be taken into the life of God and remain themselves—in fact, be very much more themselves than they were before."
