U.S. Official: Syrian President Assad Is Behind Chemical Weapons Attack

Today, U.N. investigators will examine the site where hundreds of Syrian citizens were killed last week in a suspected chemical weapons attack—though according to a senior Obama administration official, evidence may have been “significantly corrupted” by recent shelling. The official told CNN, “If the Syrian government had nothing to hide and wanted to prove to the world that it had not used chemical weapons in this incident, it would have ceased its attacks on the area and granted immediate access to the U.N.—five days ago.” The administration has “very little doubt” that the forces of President Bashar al-Assad are behind the chemical attack on the town near Damascus.
