Urban Outfitters, Why On Earth Would You Do This.

Urban Outfitters has done a decent job of being truly awful lately, but they refuse to rest on their laurels when there are new depths of depravity to be mined; new rock bottoms to hit. This week, that rock bottom comes from a tapestry that is a dead ringer for the garb that the Nazis forced gay men to wear in concentration camps. The patterns were so identical that ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman wrote to Urban Outfitters chief executive Richard Hayne, saying “Whether intentional or not, this gray and white striped pattern and pink triangle combination is deeply offensive and should not be mainstreamed into popular culture,” Foxman said in a statement. “We urge Urban Outfitters to immediately remove the product eerily reminiscent of clothing forced upon the victims of the Holocaust from their stores and online.” The tapestry was found at a store in Boulder, Colo, and Urban Outfitters hasn’t responded to reporters’ request for a comment yet. Now, the pattern could certainly be a coincidence but it does seem like, after everything they’ve been through, Urban Outfitters would start doing some basic background checks on this stuff …
