Town Mentioned in the Gospel of Mark Found by Archeologists

A team of archeologists in Israel have uncovered the remains of an ancient town that may be the region of Dalmanutha referenced in the Gospel of Mark. The small city is only mentioned briefly in the Bible: After Jesus fed the masses through the miracle of the fish and loaves, Mark 8:10-11 says that Jesus and His disciples “got into the boat … and went to the region of Dalmanutha. The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.”

Back in 1986, a team of researchers found parts of a 2,000 year-old boat in the same area in Israel’s Ginosar valley, on the coast of the Sea of Galilee. The current team of archeologists says that much of the pottery and artifacts suggests that the town was a prosperous fishing village, which would line up with the Biblical story …
