There’s No Excuse Not to Help the People of Aleppo

Over 25,000 people have been evacuated from the rebel-held district of East Aleppo and thousands of evacuations are ongoing. Dozens of buses carry evacuees from Aleppo to areas outside the city in the government-held West. Among the traumatized are children—many orphaned. Syrians still trapped in Aleppo wait to be evacuated and families waiting on evacuation are sleeping in the streets as temperatures fall below freezing.

Syrian government forces have recently threatened to storm East Aleppo, which would escalate the dangers facing the thousands still trapped in the area. As the situation unfolds, support for refugees is needed now more than ever. More details about the state of the city are rolling in every hour, but what we do know is that people there are facing what experts are calling one of the greatest humanitarian crises of this generation. There’s no excuse as the body of Christ to not help the people caught in the middle of this terrible conflict.

Here are a few ways you can get involved:

Support local refugee resettlement efforts

Over 13.5 million refugees have been displaced as a result of the war. The Office of Refugee Resettlement offers an email list of organizations and churches supporting refugees in your state. Reach out to a local effort and get involved. This is an opportunity to live out our responsibility to welcome the foreigners and show mercy to orphans and widows if there ever was one.

Preemptive Love

The Iraq-based organization is focusing their work on helping families fleeing violence in Aleppo. Check out this update from Preemptive Love’s founder, Jeremy Courtney:

You can donate to their efforts directly through their site.
