Starbucks Is Giving Away Free Coffee to Remind Congress How Human Connection Works

Through Friday, if you purchase a beverage for someone else, Starbucks will give you a free coffee. In a letter posted on the company’s website, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz cited the “federal government shutdown, the pending debt and default crisis, waning consumer confidence and the general sense of unease” that have left many people feeling “cynical, powerless or disengaged.” He described the Come Together campaign as a way to “support and connect with one another, even as we wait for our elected officials to do the same for our country.” All you have to do to claim your free coffee is to go to a local Starbucks and buy a drink for someone else.
