Senate GOP Nominee Roy Moore Has Been Accused of Molesting a 14-Year-Old

The Republican Party is struggling to distance itself from Alabama Senate GOP nominee Roy Moore, a staunchly fundamentalist former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, after numerous women went on record accusing him of pursuing relationships with them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. One woman said she was 14 years old when Moore molested her. He would have been 32 at the time.

That woman, Leigh Corfman, told the Washington Post that “I have prayed over this. All I know is that I can’t sit back and let this continue, let him continue without the mask being removed.”

Moore responded in a written statement to the Post: “These allegations are completely false and are a desperate political attack by the National Democrat Party and the Washington Post on this campaign.”

Notably, none of the women the Post talked to came forward on their own. “All were initially reluctant to speak publicly but chose to do so after multiple interviews, saying they thought it was important for people to know about their interactions with Moore,” the Post wrote. “The women say they don’t know one another.”

Moore was already on the national stage for despicable statements he’s made in the past, including saying that Muslims should not be allowed to serve in Congress.
