The Sad, Inspiring, Ongoing Story of Malala Yousafzai, Pakistan’s Shot Teen Blogger

Last Tuesday, Malala Yousafzai—the 14-year-old Pakistani girl whose blog has been a heartfelt, detailed, fearless account of her life under the Taliban regime—was shot in the head by the Taliban for “promoting secularism” (particularly, advocating for her own right to education.) She’s remained in critical condition ever since, with doctors giving her a 70% chance of survival. She’s been transported from hospital to hospital, in an attempt to keep ahead of the Taliban who has vowed to “target her again.” Pakistani officials have offered a 10 million rupee award for any information leading to the arrest of Malala’s attackers, with Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani saying that it’s time to, “stand up to fight the propagators of such barbaric mindset and their sympathisers.” The BBC has put together a timeline of Malala’s blog entries, and it is sobering, soul-stirring reading …
