Report: Shelly Sterling Is Orchestrating the Sale of the Clippers

According to several reports, Donald Sterling is attempting to sell the Los Angeles Clippers. TMZ Sports says that Sterling has “surrendered control” of the NBA franchise to his estranged wife, Shelly Sterling, so that she can negotiate the sale. The team, which Donald Sterling purchased in 1981 for $13.1 million, could now be worth more than $1 billion.

It still far from a done deal though. The league is currently still planning a hearing to officially vote on whether or not Sterling should be ousted, and the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Shelly Sterling still wants to maintain some ownership of the team—which could be a potential sticking point in the sale. ESPN notes, “While the league has yet to formally accept this arrangement, sources said, if she is willing to sell the team in its entirety, this could bring a startlingly quick end to what appeared to be a protracted legal battle.” Donald Sterling was banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million after he was heard on a leaked private call making multiple racist statements …
