The current government of Libya says that Al-Qaeda militant Mokhtar Belmokhtar was killed in a U.S. airstrike in the country. Though the Pentagon hasn’t confirmed that Belmokhtar definitely died in the attack, officials did say that a targeted airstrike happened in the region this weekend. Belmokhtar was a key Al-Qaeda leader in the region, and, along with orchestrating several terrorist attacks, he was most known for leading a siege on a gas plant in Algeria in 2013.
