Poll: Replace Andrew Jackson with Harriet Tubman

The results of an online campaign called “Women on 20s” are in: Hundreds of thousands want to see Andrew Jackson replaced on the $20 bill with abolitionist and Underground Railroad hero Harriet Tubman. In the final round of voting, Tubman beat out other influential women including Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks. From the campaign,

On May 12, 2015, Women On 20s presented a petition to President Obama informing him of the results of the election and encouraging him to instruct Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew to use his authority to make this change in time to have a new bill in circulation before the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in 2020.

The ball is now in the court of the government, but if you look through your wallet, it’s not hard to see that American currency is seriously lacking in diversity. And, as 118,328 voters can attest, Harriet Tubman could be a pretty great addition to our money …
