One of the Steubenville Rapists Has Been Released

One of the two teenagers convicted of raping a female classmate in Steubenville, Ohio, has been released from a juvenile detention center. Ma’Lik Richmond and a fellow football player at Steubenville High School were found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl, who was intoxicated, after naked pictures of her were distributed to their friends. He was convicted in March, and received the lowest possible sentence for the crime. In a statement, the two rapists’ lawyer said that the ordeal has been “extremely challenging” for his client and wants everyone to know that “at sixteen years old, Ma’Lik and his family endured hardness beyond imagine for any adult yet alone child.” He did not mention the victim. The case became a national news story when the Anonymous hacker group leaked evidence that school officials may have tried to cover up the crime because the two teens at the center of it were prominent athletes …
