The New $10 Bill Will Feature a Woman

For the first time since the 1800s, a woman will be featured on American paper currency. The Treasury Department has announced that starting in 2020, new $10 bills will feature a woman, though it’s still undecided who will get the honor. The secretary of the Treasury, Jack Lew, who ultimately gets to make the decision, told reporters, “We’re going to spend a lot of time this summer listening to people.” He also clarified that Alexander Hamilton will still have a place on the $10 note—either on the back or on a different series of $10 bills. Only two other women have ever been pictured on paper money in America—Martha Washington and Pocahontas—though those bills have been out of circulation for more than a century …
