Montana Judge Sentences Teacher to 30 Days in Prison for Raping Student

District Judge G. Todd Baugh of Montana is catching a lot of heat for the slap on the wrist he’s giving to Stacey Rambold, a 54-year-old teacher who raped a 14-year-old girl who later committed suicide. Judge Baugh sentenced Rambold to 30 days in prison, saying that the girl, Cherice Moralzez, was “as much in control of the situation” as her teacher was and that she was “older than her chronological age,” whatever that even means. Cherice committed suicide two years later, and her mother said that she believes her daughter’s rape was largely responsible for her tragic decision. Judge Baugh has since apologized for his words, but stands behind his sentence, saying “I think that people have in mind that this was some violent, forcible, horrible rape. It was horrible enough as it is, just given her age, but it wasn’t this forcible beat-up rape” …
