Malala Is Donating $50K to Rebuild Schools in Gaza

Teenage Pakistani activist and education advocate Malala Yousafzai has announced that she is donating $50,000 to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees to assist in the building of schools in Gaza. The agency is currently rebuilding more than 60 schools in the region that suffered damaged during the most recent, week’s-long violent conflict between Israel and Hamas. The 17-year-old, who just won the World’s Children’s Prize (which came with the $50,000 that is being donated), as well as a Nobel Peace Prize, for her work advocating for education rights for young girls—told reporters,

Innocent Palestinian children have suffered terribly and for too long. We must all work to ensure Palestinian boys and girls, and all children everywhere, receive a quality education in a safe environment. Because without education, there will never be peace.
