Lorde Fans Stage a Loving ‘Protest’ for Westboro Demonstrators

Even though Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps passed away last week, members of his cult-like congregation said they were still moving forward with plans to protest a Lorde concert in Kansas. When she heard the demonstrators were headed to the show, the singer posted (and then deleted) a few tongue-in-cheek tweets encouraging fans to counter their notorious anti-gay, hateful signs with a different kind of message. Outside of the venue this weekend, as Westboro members held up hate-filled signs, Lorde fans displayed their own large banners that read “Live Your Life and Be Awesome” and “Sorry for Your Loss.” One of the anti-protesters told a local news station, “It wasn’t so much about antagonizing them, but sending out the counter message, you know, that we are here for that counter message, that need that positivity” …
