The LAPD Has Released the Autopsy of Ezell Ford

Monday, the Los Angeles Police Department released their autopsy on the death of Ezell Ford, a 25-year-old unarmed black man with a history of mental illness who was shot and killed by police back in August. The autopsy revealed that Ford was shot three times by police—once in the arm and once in the side, with the fatal wound in the back. The autopsy showed that the fatal wound had a “muzzle imprint,” suggesting he was shot at close range.

The report did not have many details about why Ford was originally stopped by officers, but said he “continued walking and made suspicious movements.” According to Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck, Ford ended up on top of one of the officers and was trying to unholster the officer’s own gun when the other officer fired twice at Ford and the fallen officer unholstered his backup gun, reached up around Ford and shot him in the back. Beck said, “There is nothing in the coroner’s report that is inconsistent with the statements given to us by the officers.” But the Ford family’s attorney, Steve Lerman, says the autopsy supported his case against the department, saying “What the report shows is that Ezell was shot in the back and killed” …
