Members of the Islamic group Boko Haram have raided a boarding school in Nigeria, murdering 29 students. Gunmen from the group, whose name literally means “Western education is sinful” set fire to the school, and many of the pupils parished in the flames. According to the police, only male students were targeted. This summer, a similar attack on a school in the region killed 22 students. Military and security forces have failed to capture many of the militants as their attacks have become more brazen. Last week, more than 200 people were massacred when rebels stormed a village. Along with students, the insurgents target citizens who they perceive to be pro-government, and have even resorted to kidnapping girls and forcing them to become child soldiers.
