The Newtown-fueled drive to increase gun control measures has all but ended. The Senate struck down a bipartisan effort increase background checks, an effort that had the support of 54 senators, 80% of the American people and the President of the United States. The Senate also killed an effort to ban certain semiautomatic weapons, and are expected to strike down attempts to limit the high-capacity magazines.
