Impossibly Sad Sandusky Cover-Up Somehow Gets Even Sadder

The Freeh Report is a long-awaited and exhaustive inquiry into Penn State’s cover-up of allegations of abuse leveled at former employee Jerry Sandusky. It’s been released today, and the findings are devastating. It implicates the college’s senior leadership of “total and consistent disregard…for the safety and welfare of Sandusky’s child victims.” The report goes on to say that Penn State’s “Big Four” — President Graham B. Spanier, Senior Vice President-Finance Gary C. Schultz, Athletic Director Timothy M. Curley and Head Football Coach Joseph V. Paterno —were well aware of the allegations and utterly negligent in responding to them. “The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized. Messrs. Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley never demonstrated, through actions or words, any concern for the safety and well-being of Sandusky’s victims until after Sandusky’s arrest” …
