When Hollie Black and her husband Luke had their car broken in to, they knew their valuables could be replaced, but a logbook of Hollie’s medical schoolwork would be lost forever. A few days later, she received a call from a man who said that he had found the paperwork and Hollie’s contact information while looking in dumpsters for scrap metal. She and her husband met the homeless man, who returned the paperwork. They even took a picture with him to remember the good deed. Luke decided to post the picture to Reddit, with this caption: “This homeless man found a bunch of my wife’s stolen property strewn all over downtown Tulsa. He took the time to gather it all up in the rain and call us for retrieval. I just want to recognize him as an awesome human being.”
Within hours of posting, the image made it to the front page of Reddit. A user was even able to identify the man as Rayford West. Reddit users have since began donating money and hygiene items to the homeless shelter that Rayford frequently visits. The executive director of the Tulsa homeless center told ABC News, “It is just kind of one of those pay it forward moments where one person does something really, really helpful and then that chain reaction of people wanting to follow suit. I thought it was pretty amazing” …
