Atheist legal group The Freedom From Religion Foundation is suing the United States Treasury Department in an effort to have the words “In God We Trust” removed from American currency. They say the motto is offensive to non-believers and was originally intended to evangelize. An official with the organization said, “Who is the ‘we’ representing, if not all of us trust in a God? … The idea was that ‘as our money goes around the world, we are sharing our Christianity.'” The group may not be very effective, but they are persistent; this is their fourth attempt at having the phrase removed from money.
