Expert: ISIS Member on Video of Christian Executions ‘Sounds Like an American’

One of the ISIS militants on a horrifying new recent video showing the beheading of 21 Christian men may be an American. The man on the video, who says that ISIS is “on the south of Rome,” (a reference to the group’s recent expansion) “sounds like an American” according to linguistics expert and North Carolina State University Professor Erik Thomas. In an interview with ABC News, Thomas and another unnamed expert confirmed that the accent is evidence of involvement by an ISIS recruit from the West. The other expert said that even if the militant isn’t from the U.S., his grasp of the language suggests he spent a “significant amount of time” in the country.
