Every Day in North Korea Is a Sad Thanksgiving

As long as you’re putting together your “Things I’m Thankful For” list, maybe take a moment to pray for those who have less to be thankful for than you. This includes, at present, the people of North Korea, for whom Kim Jong Un has mandated every day to be a day of Thanksgiving. Sounds great in theory, but it’s miserable. Seoul USA CEO Eric Foley said that “The best wall on every house in North Korea must have well cared for photos of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. At every meal families look up at the picture and pray, thank you, Father Kim Il Sung, for this food.” It’s a reminder of something often forgotten about the still-mysterious Hermit Kingdom, which is that it is, according to Foley, perhaps the most religious nation on earth. Every single citizen is required to worship Kim Il Jung, making it the world’s only “neocracy.” If you’re interested in helping citizens of North Korea, check out our friends at LINK, who are doing some great work over there …
