Crowdfunding Is Helping the Jamaican Bobsled Team Get to the Olympics

For the first time in more than a decade, the Jamaican bobsled team will be back in the Winter Olympic Games. Using the hashtag #CoolRunnings (a film which ranks alongside The Mighty Ducks, Rookie of the Year and Little Giants as the greatest sports movies of your childhood), the Jamaican Bobsleigh Federation promoted an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise the $80,000 necessary for their team to compete at the Sochi Games next month.

The Federation’s general secretary told ESPN.com, that recently, times have been tight for the team: “We’ve had very lonely days when we struggled to make ends meet by borrowing equipment. Our guys haven’t had the proper jackets.” Donors to a Crowdtilt page and Reddit’s Dogecoin users also pitched in on the effort, and yesterday, the Jamaican Olympic Association announced that because of the influx of online support, all of the costs will officially be covered. We are now just weeks away from cheering on our heroes. If you don’t still get chills when you hear the chant, “Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it’s bobsled time!” then we honestly just feel bad for you …
