What started as a small rally in San Paulo to protest a government hike on bus fares has turned into a large movement in Brazil, with The New York Times reporting some 100,000 protesters in Rio de Janeiro who gathered to condemn what they view as nationwide corruption amongst politicians and police forces. There is evidence of police harming peaceful protesters and citizens overturning cars, but not all the gatherings have been violent.
