AP’s Twitter Account Got Hacked and the World Promptly Lost Its Mind

The Twitter account for the Associated Press was only hacked long enough to post one tweet, about a fake explosion at the White House that had injured Barack Obama. But, the world being what it is and Twitter being regarded as an unfailing source of news and people just being generally excitable these days, it was enough to send the Dow spiraling down 140 points. The AP quickly suspended their account and announced that they’d be hacked, but the damage was done and, just like that, everyone’s demanding Twitter step up its cyber security. Maybe they should also demand people take five seconds to check their facts before losing their minds over something like this …
