87 People Killed in Bangladesh Garment Factory Collapse

At least 87 people were killed when a building that contained several garment factories collapsed in Bangladesh. Many others were trapped in the rubble. The day before, workers noticed cracks in the building (the damage was so concerning that the building appeared on the local news that evening), but were assured that conditions were safe when they returned to work on Wednesday. American clothing brands were among those that the businesses in the eight-story structure worked on. The garment industry in the country is facing renewed concerns about unsafe working conditions: just five months ago, a factory fire claimed the lives of 125 workers …

Update: The death toll in this tragedy has reached almost 200.
