7 Organizations to Check Out on Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday, celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and widely known shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. For many, the holiday season is the best and easiest time to give a little extra.

One of the best ways to cooperate in Giving Tuesday is simply by getting involved and learning about different organizations. We’ve crafted a list of some well-known organizations and how you can get involved with them today:

1. World Vision is a global Christian humanitarian organization that partners with children, families and their communities to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. For the third year in a row, World Vision and Thirty-One Gifts (selling purses, totes and home decor) partnered to match donors’ Giving Tuesday donations. Thirty-One Gifts matches any donation that supporters make on Giving Tuesday with product donations up to $2 million, including apparel and bags to help women and children in need. Donate here or sponsor a child here.

2. Dress for Success is an international non-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Each year on Giving Tuesday, Dress for Success holds a #GivingShoesDay campaign, which in the past few years has amassed more than 17,000 pairs of shoes donated through the organization’s 145 affiliates around the world. Join the movement.

3. Now in its fourth year, Bedstock is a one-of-a-kind, life changing music festival, where artists play from bed for sick kids stuck in theirs. It helps to raise funds and awareness for MyMusicRx, a program that delivers the healing power of music to the bedsides of children and teens facing cancer and other serious illnesses. MyMusicRx teams utilize state-of-the-art music carts stocked with teaching quality instruments for kids to explore, and iPads loaded with music games and apps. Converse matches all donations made for Giving Tuesday. Donate to Bedstock here.

4. The Family Dinner Project, which champions family dinner as an opportunity for family members to connect through food, fun and conversation about things that matter, launched its Giving Tuesday campaign, #GiveAndTalk, which invited families nationwide to talk about how they’re going to give back. Families created their own pledges. Complete your own pledge.

5. For Giving Tuesday, local World Relief offices across the country supported new refugees who have recently arrived in the U.S. with few belongings. They asked the community to build welcome kits for the families to provide them with key household items such as kitchen supplies, bedding and other necessities. World Relief encourages their community to put love in action.

6. Building on the success of digital donor drive, ORGANIZE partnered with organ procurement organizations to ask people to register as organ donors, and to share their donor status with family and friends by posting “I’m an #OrganDonor, are you?” Using these social outlets, ORGANIZE and their network of partners mobilized the army of organ donation advocates to come together on one day for a huge digital donor drive and awareness campaign. Register to be an organ donor today.

7. Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people (ages 13-24). Since the holiday season is an exceptionally busy time for The Trevor Project counselors, they set a goal to raise $25,000 to cover 25,000 more minutes of support to manage the spike in calls, texts and chats. So far, they have raised over $91,000 in donations. Donate to The Trevor Project here.
