Sleeping at Last live

Chicagoans were treated to a special Sleeping at Last show this past Thursday. The band brought out the strings and bulked up their already massive sound with a quartet of talented ladies. But there was more, the band played brand new songs, never before heard in public until Thursday. And guess what. They’re good. If you haven’t heard Sleeping at Last before, make sure to go to their gorgeous website and listen to some lovely music. And if you already know and love Sleeping at Last, start getting excited, because their new songs are wonderful.

We also had the pleasure of hearing Sleeping at Last play a few Christmas songs. They kicked the set off with “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” name-dropped the best city in the whole wide world on “Silver Bells,” and brought the night to a serious and delicate close with a crowd-hushing “O Holy Night.”

One other important aspect of the show worth mentioning: the opening act. Matthew Santos is some sort of male vocalist superman. He sounds like Bono, John Mayer, Christ Martin, Matt Ward, Will Oldham, and Dave Matthews thrown into one incredible voice. He makes some appearances on the new Lupe Fiasco album, The Cool, and all I can say is to watch out for this guy, he might just blow up!

Well, thanks for reading the ReleBlog this year! Hopefully there have been some benefits to it, if not, then I’d feel like quite the failure. But hey, if all you get from the Relevant Music Blog is a recommendation to check out Sleeping at Last, then we should all be okay.
