You guys like St Vincent right? Of course you do, who wouldn’t like St Vincent? Well I felt like sharing some pictures of her rock show in Chicago last night, because it was really good.
This pretty girl rocked two sold-out shows at Schubas this weekend. And seriously, she rocked. The girl could shred the guitar like Jack White, but then a moment later she could hush her voice and demand the attention from her audience for a quiet moment of delicate balladry. With three microphones to choose from (including yonder can), Annie Clark proved to be a new artist to listen up to. Her band of multi-instrumentalists took her show from interesting to impressive (violin, clarinet, jingle bells, that electronic foot organ thing, etc.). She is a very talented performer, and if she keeps up her momentum, she will definitely be something incredible to watch in years to come.
See that Jesus shirt in the upper right hand corner there? I liked those. “Jesus Saves, I Spend.” What a great song, and funny idea. Check out the lyrics from that one:
While Jesus is saving I’m spending all my days
in backgrounds and landscapes with the languages of saints
While people are spinning like toys on Christmas day
I’m inside a still life with the other absentee
While Jesus is saving, I’m spending all my days
in the garden-grey pallor of lines across your face
While people will cheer on the spectacle we’ve made
I’m sitting and sculpting menageries of saints
Oh, my man my absentee
I’d do anything to please you
Come my love the stage is waiting
Be the one to save my saving grace
While Jesus is saving I’m spending all my grace
on rosy-red pallor of lights on center stage
While people have cheered on the awful mess we’ve made
through storms of red roses we’ve exited the stage
Well, I think she’s onto something. At least sincerity. But these lryics sound so much better when they’re coming out of her mouth:
Jesus Saves, I Spend video
So those are just a few pictures from a good show, now we can all get back to talking about the Academy Awards (Go listen to the best original song for a motion picture here. (their acceptance was the best Oscar moment this year by the way.))
But seriously, St Vincent is awesome. Go check out her live show if you get a chance.
