19-Year-Old Commits Suicide After Being Outed as Porn Actress

Earlier this year, 19-year-old Alyssa Funke, a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, ended up in her first and only pornographic video. She had straight A’s, aimed to major in biology and one day become an anesthesiologist. Soon after the video went up (in which Funke used a fake name) students at her old high school started cyberbullying her over social media, sending cruel messages, calling her names and worse. “Nothing brings a school together like a porn star who graduated last year,” taunted one former classmate. “I guess you could say news spreads fast here at Stillwater hahah.”

Over social media, Funke seemed unperturbed by the bullies (“Famous for dayzzzzzzz,” was one of her final tweets) but her parents say it added fuel to the fire of her long battle with depression—so much so that she took a shotgun out to her family’s boat and tragically took her own life. “Alyssa like so many other teens was a victim of bully and sadly the bullying lead to her death,” her parents wrote on a fundraising site they started in her memory. “Social media has revolutionized the way people bully eachother now days. Now you can say whatever you want and not have to look the person in the face while doing it” …
