12-Year-Olds Who Brutally Stabbed Classmate Said They Were Acting on Behalf of Internet Character Slenderman

There’s a truly tragic and frightening situation unfolding in Wisconsin, where two 12-year-olds are being charged as adults for brutally stabbing a classmate 19 times. The two young girls told investigators that they were acting as “proxies” for Slenderman—a creation of the Internet’s horror story writing Creepypasta culture. Slenderman, whose story has been repeatedly adapted by Creepypasta, is a demonic figure, whose tall appearance disguises tentacles that he uses to capture and kill children.

One of the girls, who were fascinated with Slenderman (a fictional character who they apparently believe is real), told investigators that Slenderman visits her in her dreams, watches her and wanted them to kill in order to prove themselves to him, or “he would kill our family.” After killing their victim, the pair planned to walk into the woods to find a mansion where they believed Slenderman lived. The duo said that they planned the attack for months, but waited until after a sleepover when they lured their victim to a wooded park to play hide and seek, and then stabbed her 19 times. The victim was able to escape, and was found on the side of the road by a cyclist. She is currently in stable condition. The two 12-year-old suspects are being tried as adults and could face up to 65 years in prison …
