Well, That Didn’t Take Long: Hackers Trick iPhone’s Fingerprint Scanner

A group of German hacker/researchers known as the Chaos Computer Club, claims to have already figured out how to trick the new iPhone’s fingerprint scanner. The method of unlocking the phone was supposed to offer a more secure way of protecting phone data than conventional passwords. To trick the scanner, the hackers took a photo of a fingerprint left on a glass surfaced and smeared the printed image with latex. The method may be a little more sophisticated than what the average pick-pocket would employ if they stole your phone, but the scanner may not be as secure as Apple claims it is. In their keynote presentation, Apple claimed that the new devices were so advanced, that they actually scanned the sub-epidermal layer of the finger.
