Wonder Woman teammates Patty Jenkins (director) and Chris Pine (Chris Pine) are joining forces again for a TNT limited series, I Am the Night. The six-episode miniseries is inspired by the memoir of Fauna Hodel, whose investigation into her own past leads her close to a man involved in the Black Dahlia slaying of Elizabeth Short in 1940s Los Angeles.
Pine plays Jay Singletary, a very reporter-named reporter who works to uncover the mystery of Hodel’s past, only to be sucked up in the same darkness that she herself is uncovering. It’s all very True Detective-ish.
It’s another prestige entry into the true crime genre on TV, following things like American Crime Story and The Jinx. This time, though, the creators are a bit more unlikely. We’ll see how this one adds to the landscape when it broadcasts on TNT in January 2019.
