It’s taken an ugly, high-profile tragedy, but officials from Twitter have said that they are finally changing their policies to crackdown on harassment. Following the revelation that her father, Robin Williams, had committed suicide, his 25-year-old daughter was subjected to so many hateful messages that she quit social media all together. In a statement published by The Washington Post, Twitter’s vice president of trust and safety said,
We have suspended a number of accounts related to this issue for violating our rules and we are in the process of evaluating how we can further improve our policies to better handle tragic situations like this one. This includes expanding our policies regarding self-harm and private information, and improving support for family members of deceased users.
