Duo twenty one pilots is promoting their next album, Trench, in cryptic and artful fashion. This week, they debuted the final video in their single trilogy, “Levitate.” The video follows those of “Jumpsuit” and “Nico and the Niners,” and holds onto similar visual and audial motifs.
The series as a whole shows the duo ambushed and confronted by a band of Mad Max-ish raiders. There are some wild additional flourishes, like a red-robed albino rider, a vulture and a burning car. Of course, the lyrics are just as dense and tough to parse, so it will take the closest of listeners and watchers to figure out exactly what’s happening.
On its face though, we’re here for these tracks. They’re moody and intense, but they keep up the band’s streak of intentional songwriting, something we always support.
