Will Ferrell is a man in need of some therapy and Paul Rudd is the man who gives it to him with some pretty big strings attached in The Shrink Next Door, a miniseries adaptation of an absolutely wild true story that you can Google yourself if you want — or just wait for this series so you don’t get any spoilers. In fact, the story isn’t entirely over, with a little bit of legal fallout blowing up just a few months ago (click this link for details …or don’t so you don’t get any spoilers for the miniseries! Your choice!).
The whole thing is based off a runaway hit podcast series from 2019 but the big talk still feels like the stars here: Ferrell, Rudd and Kathryn Hahn. Ferrell plays Marty, a guy who seems to think his life is going “fine,” but could clearly use some counseling. Rudd is Dr. Isaac Herschkopf, a real-life counselor to the stars who agrees to help Marty with his mental health and then slowly starts expanding his control to other areas. Hahn plays Marty’s wife, and maybe the only actual voice of reason in his life. The first three episodes will drop on Apple TV+ on November 12 and the whole thing should be pretty interesting.
