Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang and Tons More Join Disney’s ‘Obi-Wan’ Series

Ewan McGregor is officially back in the vaguely Jesus-y robes as Obi-Wan Kenobi for Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars spinoff series, and he won’t be alone. As rumored, Hayden Christensen is indeed out of prequel jail and back on as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, and they’ll be joined by a frankly delightful cast. Kumail Nanjiani will be on board along with Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Benny Safdie of the red-hot Uncut Gems directing duo the Sadie Brothers and Sung Kang of the Fast and Furious movies.

The Obi-Wan series is a bold choice for the Star Wars franchise, which is doubling down on the divisive early ’00s prequels. But Disney+ is flying high off the success of The Mandalorian and clearly feeling cocky about giving McGregor another go. And hey, why not? Whatever anyone’s issues with The Phantom Menace, et al, you can’t really blame McGregor. Christensen is a little more of a question mark but that’ll be the fun of a new series. The show is set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and will start filming next month.
