There Is a ‘Jeopardy!’ Savant On the Loose

Traditionally, Jeopardy! is thought of as a trivia game. The more factoids you’ve got memorized, the better your chances of winning. But a young man by the name of Arthur Chu is on a hot streak right now, and he’s changing the game using a slightly aggravating but undoubtedly effective strategy. Essentially, he spends his turns trying to find the Daily Double, and then bets either very high or very low on them—stripping his opponents of any chances to win big (The Wire breaks it down in detail here). Of course, without Daily Doubles, the game isn’t nearly as interesting—which has Jeopardy! fans seeing red. So far, Chu’s only won three games, which doesn’t make him a serious contender for any records yet but, at the rate he’s winning, his strategy could change how Jeopardy! is played …
