The ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Trailer’s Best Joke Was Written By a Make-A-Wish Kid

Hey, remember the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok? Man, what a great trailer. Nobody’s out here accusing the Thor movies of being the best part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise but, hoo boy, this trailer sure makes the third entry in Chris Hemsworth’s trilogy look like something special. Let’s watch it again.

Now it’s tough to pick a best part of the teaser, but “He’s a friend from work!” has got to be in the running. And now, as Hemsworth tells EW, it turns out the best part of the joke is actually the story behind it. It turns out Hemsworth was hosting a Make-A-Wish kid onset that day and the kid pitched in with an idea that turned out to be solid gold. “We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day,” Hemsworth related. “He goes, ‘You know, you should say, ‘He’s a friend from work!’”

The movie is helmed by Taika Waititi, a New Zealand director more known for low-budget deadpan comedic movies like What We Do In the Shadows than superhero blockbusters, but everything we’ve seen from the movie so far looks incredible, so Marvel might just know what they’re doing. We’ll see for sure in November.
