The New ‘Space Force’ Logo Is …Just the ‘Star Trek’ Logo?

Today, President Donald Trump took to Twitter (where else) to debut the logo for the “Sixth Branch of our Magnificent Military.” Yes, the Space Force logo is here, and let the evildoers in space beware.

But while the day is certainly a cause for celebration, more than a few people noticed that our new logo looks a little … familiar. In other words, as one Twitter user put it, the logo seems to boldly go where others have gone before.

Yes, the Space Force logo looks much, more more than just inspired by the Starfleet logo. It appears to be almost a shot-for-shot remake of Star Trek‘s iconic Federation insignia.

It’s not clear, right now, just how this happened — but the whole thing does look too close for coincidence. A lazy designer? An overeager Trekkie among our “Great Military Leaders”? A joint marketing campaign with CBS’ new Star Trek: Picard series? No one knows.

There are more questions. The logo is dated 2019 for reasons that aren’t immediately clear. But more curiously is the inclusion of the “Department of the Air Force” on the logo. The U.S. Air Force already has a Space Command, and now the Space Force appears to be a division of the same, so is the Space Force just an updated version of Space Command?

What’s going on?
