Tesla Wants to Power Your Home with Batteries

Tesla is known for their hi-tech, super efficient electric cars, but recent statements by CEO Elon Musk have suggested that the company’s next move may be powering people’s homes. As Mashable notes, yesterday, the entrepreneur tweeted, “Major new Tesla product line — not a car — will be unveiled at our Hawthorne Design Studio on Thurs 8pm, April 30,” and though there’s been speculation as to what the unveiling will showcase, according to Bloomberg, on a recent company earning’s call, Musk told investors about Tesla’s big future initiative: “We are going to unveil the Tesla home battery, the consumer battery that would be for use in people’s houses or businesses fairly soon.” Musk is also a major player in the solar panel industry, leading the company SolarCity, so he knows a lot about the industry. It’s still yet to be seen if the April 30 event is, in fact, about a home-powering battery as the earning’s call suggests, but given Musk’s penchant to envelope-pushing new technology (he’s also the CTO and CEO of the space exploration company Space X), it’s likely going to be an ambitious product …
